As someone who has hosted Fourth of July parties for years.. I’ve narrowed down the key essentials for creating an enjoyable day for everyone while also making it easy for myself.

Just like any other party, you create the vibes and experience for your guests. There are no hidden secrets or rules to having a fun day! However, I’ve found the best 4th of July party ideas include fun backyard party games, festive decorations, good food, and good music!

There are SO many fun ways to celebrate the Fourth of July activities. Whether you’re relaxing with friends and family or partying, here are some of my favorites:

Easy 4th of July Party Ideas
1. Send Out Invitations
No matter the party or event, I always send out invitations. It gives everything a sense of legitimacy and makes it feel more organized! Sending invitations via text is the easiest way to go.
I create all my invites on Canva. You can find templates for 4th of July invitations and simply fill in your details. It’s very straightforward, easy to use, and best of all, it’s free!
2. Purchase Red, White, Blue Party Tableware
First things first: what is everyone eating and drinking from? I find that the most enjoyable parties are the festive ones. You can purchase patriotic cutlery on Amazon! It’s inexpensive, easy to get, and will make your guests think you put a lot of thought into the planning, haha!
3. Create a 4th of July Balloon Wall
Everyone loves taking pictures, so this is the perfect photo opportunity. To create an American flag balloon wall, using red, white, and blue balloons is the way to go.
During my event, everyone spent the most time taking pictures in front of the balloon wall I created.
It’s easy to assemble, especially with my electric balloon pump, which allows me to inflate the balloons in just a matter of seconds.
4. Bomb Pop Jello Shots – Adults
What’s a fun 4th of July BBQ without jelly shots?! Growing up, blue rocket popsicles were my favorite popsicles, haha. Create patriotic Bomb Pop Jello Shots with the following ingredients:
Blue Layer
- 1/2 cup water, boiled
- 1 box instant blueberry Jell-O
- 1/2 cup vodka
Red Layer
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 box instant cherry Jell-O
- 1/2 cup vodka
White Layer
- 1 envelope gelatin
- 1 cup milk, divided
- 3 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup vodka
5. Serve a Delicious Red White and Blue Punch
A festive and fun punch to keep everyone cool in the summer heat. All you need is 4 simple ingredients, and it’s SO good:
- Sprite
- Berry Blue Typhoon Hawaiian Punch
- Fruit Juicy Red Hawaiian Punch
- Red White & Blue Sorbet
6. Cut Star-Shaped Watermelon
I use star-shaped cookie cutters to cut my watermelon each year. They’re fun, easy to make, and always a crowd favorite. I place the stars in drinks and create watermelon star kabobs with blueberries.
7. Create a Fourth of July Banner
Another fun idea for the 4th of July is to create a festive banner. I usually hang the banner above the food table, but it also serves as a great backdrop for photos with friends and family.
I always begin by lightly sketching the design with a pencil, but don’t worry about making it perfect! Just grab some red, white, and blue acrylic paint, and start painting.
You can also use any leftover paint to hold a fun activity where everyone can paint their own American flags.
8. Have a Bonfire
Towards the end of the night, host a bonfire. You can never go wrong with S’mores. Everyone enjoys making them, and it’s a cheap 4th of July dessert!
9. Add Red White & Blue Decoration to Your Pool
If you’re hosting a pool party or going to the lake, add some patriotic decorations like floaties and balloons to the pool.

Spray red, white, and blue stars on your lawn using only spray paint and a sketched star as a template.

A great way to cool off in the summer heat. Have everyone bring their swimsuits and get to tossing the water balloons.

What’s a Fourth of July celebration without fireworks? I usually have my 4th of July party during the day, and we go downtown to watch the fireworks. However, if your city does not offer a fireworks show, you have to purchase fireworks!
17. 4th of July Desserts
You must have a dessert table. These star-shaped kabobs and dipped red, white, and blue strawberries are easy to make. You can purchase the premade red, white, and blue pretzels!
18. Rent a Bounce House
I love a fun bounce house. If kids are attending the 4th of July party, they will also love it. It will definitely keep them occupied, and out of the adults’ way 🙂 haha!
19. Easy Star Brownies
Just like with a star-shaped watermelon, all you need is a star-shaped cookie cutter. Prepare a batch of brownies as usual, and then use the cookie cutter to cut them into star shapes.
Finish by adding red, white, and blue sprinkles and drizzling icing on top. It’s a super easy and festive treat to make!
20. Have Your Guest Dress In Red, White, And Blue
Each year, I ask my friends and family to wear their favorite red, white, and blue outfits. It’s fun, festive, and creates great memories in photos.
21. American Flag 4th of July Cake
A Fourth of July cake is a must. I suggest checking out the Walmart bakery! I got a birthday cake from them last year, and it turned out surprisingly amazing! Show them your 4th of July inspo, and they will amaze you!
